ICL set to roll Friday, unveils plans

The Indian Cricket Leauge (ICL) promoted by the Essel Group is all set to take cricket to the next level in India. The tournament is all set to start off on Friday at Panchkula. Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav would officially inaugurate the championship that is pitched as the next big thing in Indian cricket.

Himanshu Modi, Business Head, ICL on Thursday while addressing a press conference here dwelled on the various factors of the League and talked about the League’s media visibility and award patterns.

Modi elaborated that the League would be giving away a total of prize money of Rs 15 crore to the winners of the "20-20 matches beginning in Panchkula on Friday. Out of the allotted money a sum of Rs 3 crore 90 lakh will be awarded to the team winning the 2020 series.

The team coming second shall be rewarded 1 crore 90 lakh. The teams that gain the 3rd, 4th and the 5th position will also be awarded accordingly. Besides a total of Rs 18 lakh shall be granted to the team that maintains a winning record.

When questioned as to whether ICL was intentionally trying to keep the former West Indies captain Brain Lara away from the media, Modi stated, "There is absolutely no such intention at the part of the league. If such an impression has been created its only because of the fact that things are moving at a very fast pace as we had a lot of aspects to cover before the inaugural match tomorrow."

Answering sponsor related queries, Modi snubbed aside statements that the Legue was in a sponsorship crunch. "We have quiet a few sponsors right now and the figure is sure to go up once the league gets into action. It is difficult for people to invest in to a product that has not been launched yet. However sponsorship has never been a problem for us," he said.
